Practical information

Know what happens
at every stage.

Clear guidance on design approval and payment. This page also covers natural slate and delivery. You will find aftercare and personalised commission information here too.

01

Design approval

The online preview is a guide rather than a production proof. We agree the wording and layout before carving begins. The carving method and size are also confirmed. You will receive the final price and intended completion date in writing.

02

Lead times & deadlines

Relief and V-carving take substantially longer than laser engraving. Share the date and delivery postcode when you enquire. We will confirm a realistic schedule before requesting a deposit or full payment.

03

Square payments

Payment is requested by direct Square invoice. Consumer commissions require a 50% deposit before work begins. The final 50% is due on completion and before dispatch or collection. Business and corporate orders are invoiced 100% upfront.

04

Delivery

Finished pieces are protected for transit and sent using tracked delivery. The delivery service and charge are confirmed with the quotation. Please check the parcel promptly on arrival.

05

Damage in transit

If a parcel arrives damaged then keep the packaging. Contact Celtic Slateworks promptly and provide clear photographs of the parcel and piece. We can then assess the delivery issue.

06

Natural slate variation

Slate is a natural material. Colour and texture vary from piece to piece. Cleavage lines and natural edges are part of its character. We will discuss any feature that affects the approved design before carving.

07

Mounting

Through-drilled fixing leaves visible fixing points. Concealed rear fixing uses two holes in the back and includes glue and a positioning template. The correct fixing still depends on the wall and setting.

08

Aftercare

Dust with a soft dry cloth. Avoid bleach and abrasives. Do not use harsh chemical cleaners. For outdoor work please follow the placement and care advice supplied with the finished piece.

09

Personalised-order returns

Personalised and custom-made pieces are produced to an approved design. Change-of-mind returns may therefore not be available. This does not affect your legal rights if an item is faulty or damaged. It also does not affect your rights when an item is not as described.

Before placing an order

Questions are welcome.

Every commission is different. Tell us if size or mounting matters. Please also mention outdoor use and delivery needs. Include any important date so we can address it before you commit.
